Mould and Odour Abatement – Flood Assist.
MM International Member Zychem Technologies awarded Grant
Moulds are living species that are part of a diverse group of organisms called fungi. There are literally thousands of species of mould in the world. Throughout the course of a person’s day they can come in contact with hundreds of types of fungi and mold spores, most of which are completely harmless. In fact, it’s in the air we breathe every day.
In buildings and homes, mould is present from the time of construction. The mould spores become trapped in wall cavities, behind paint, under wallpaper, in the duct work, and throughout the structure. These spores will lay dormant for years until activated by a combination of moisture, temperature, and a food source (cloth, wood, drywall, insulation, etc) at which time they can quickly grow and multiply. This often results in significant cosmetic damage and, further, many moulds produce allergens and mycotoxins, which are the toxic chemical products produced as a result of their metabolism, and are the leading cause of mould-related health effects.
